Social media has become a mainstay in today’s technologically savvy society. While web-based tools can help enhance professional networking and education, client care and education, and overall organizational promotion, care must be ensured to avoid common pitfalls related to areas of confidentiality and boundary crossing. In response, several agencies have proposed and implemented guidelines for the use of social media by health care professionals. This session will provide an overview of guidelines that provide efficient and effective principles that rehabilitation professionals should consider following to avoid pitfalls in this domain.

Presenter: Dr. Rachita Sharma
Dr. Rachita Sharma is currently a clinical instructor in the department of Disability and Addiction Rehabilitation at The University of North Texas where she teaches courses on Assessment and Psychopathology. As the Clinical Coordinator of the program, she supervises the clinical training of graduate and undergraduate students during their practicum and internship experience. Rachita is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Texas and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor with several years of experience working in the field of mental health and disability rehabilitation. She obtained her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in May 2017.
