Supported Employment: ACRE Basic Certificate Training

Acclaimed as a "model for online training" by ACRE reviewers, the Supported Employment: ACRE Basic Certificate training course provides an overview of the principles and practices to assist a person with the most significant disabilities to work.  Drawing on a variety of resources created since supported employment emerged, the participant will walk through the supported employment process, from the moment they meet a candidate seeking a job, through the job search, skills training and integration into the workplace process.

This training is instructor lead and consists of weekly activities/assignments that reinforce learning, with individual feedback to strengthen skill attainment. Activities/assignments are based on a case study with valuable resource links provided throughout the course. Activities/assignments have due dates. Facilitator:  Norine Jaloway Gill, MSSW

picture of NorineNorine Jaloway Gill, MSSW, works as the Lead Trainer for UNTWISE, writing and facilitating the online courses for employment credentials for Texas’ employment service providers.  She is actively involved in promoting quality employment services for persons with disabilities since her first supported employment placement in 1989. She routinely provides technical assistance in person-centered planning, self-determination and advocacy. She serves received a HHSC Commissioner appointment to the Texas Employment First Task Force and serves on the Texas APSE board.  She advocates through the Arc of the Gulf Coast and Gulf Coast Self Advocates. Through the HCS Medicaid -Consumer Directed Services, she assists both her brother Ed and friend Ricky to achieve and sustain meaningful lives in the community, including where they live, work and socialize.

This course satisfies the basic training requirements for supported employment service providers in Louisiana and Arkansas and has been endorsed by ACRE (Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators). The curriculum is based on competencies outlined in APSE's (Association of People Supporting Employment First) domain model.
