Transition Programs

**Summer Program Update 3/01/2021**

The UNT WISE residential programs, Live & Learn and College WISE, will NOT be hosted this summer due to current COVID restrictions in place at the university. However, the curriculum from these programs has been adapted and developed into our Virtual Pre-ETS Transition Program and we are currently accepting applications. If interested please contact the student’s VR Counselor with TWC-VR so they can start the application process. The VR Counselor is the point of contact in order to apply for the program. If you do not have a VR Counselor please contact the nearest Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) office near you by referring to the VRS Directory.

The Explore STEM! Program will NOT be hosted on campus this summer, however there will be a Virtual Explore STEM! Program that will comprise of synchornous and asynchronous learning with hands on activities provided. Registration for this program will open in April. If interested please contact the student’s VR Counselor with TWC-VR so they can start the application process when registration opens.  

The STEM Maker Camp is currently planned as an in-person program at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco, TX.  Scheduled camp dates are August 2nd,2021 – August 6th, 2021. Registration for this program will open in April. If interested please contact the student’s VR Counselor with TWC-VR so they can start the application process when registration opens.  

 

The UNT WISE Virtual Pre-ETS Training assists young adults with disabilities, ages 14-22, to develop vocational skills, independent living skills, and social & recreation skills through an intensive virtual training program. The Virtual Pre-ETS Training is a six (6) week program for participants interested in vocational planning and/or post-secondary education for their future. This program opens the door to the realities of the adult world of work and living, all from an online learning environment.

The UNT WISE Live & Learn Summer Program is a two (2) week summer program for young adults with disabilities, ages 14-22, interested in vocational planning for their future. Whether their interests lie in entry-level, skilled or professional occupations, this program opens the door to the realities of the adult world of work. The Live and Learn Summer Program focuses on teaching participants independent living skills, social and recreational skills, and pre-vocational/vocational skills.

The UNT WISE College WISE program is a one (1) week summer program for young adults with disabilities, ages 14-22, interested in pursuing a post-secondary education. An overview of the expectations and demands of community college and a four-year university are explored. Participants engage in a variety of activities aimed at demonstrating skills necessary to be successful in higher education, including independent living, social, and recreational skills. 

Summer 2021 residential transition programs will NOT be hosted on campus. However, the Virtual Pre-ETS Transition Program will be hosted online.

The Explore STEM! program is a one (1) week summer program for young adults with disabilities, ages 14-22, interested in pursuing a career within the STEM fields. This program is designed for students with little to no previous exposure to computer engineering or computer science but who have an interest in exploration within the STEM fields. Participants engage in a variety of hands on learning to actively explore various aspects of the STEM fields.
