History
ENGAGE Stands for Embracing Neurodivergent Groups in Academics and Gainful Employment.
The program started in 2017 and saw its first student cohort in the spring of 2020.
In the fall of 2022, we met our capacity of 45 students in the program and have since
had a growing waitlist. As of spring 2024, we have increased our capacity to 48 students
that we can serve. We continue to evolve the program to best fit the needs of our
students and as Neurodiversity itself evolves.
Mission
The mission of UNT ENGAGE is to improve the quality of life for neurodivergent students by supporting their academic, vocational, social, and personal success at the University of North Texas and beyond.
Program Overview
ENGAGE serves neurodivergent students (diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc.) enrolled at UNT with reaching their academic and vocational goals through person-centered planning and individualized services. Students participate in assessment and planning meetings to identify personal, academic, and vocational goals.
ENGAGE staff support and guide students to reach those goals through weekly meetings, check-ins, group activities, and referrals.
ENGAGE is dedicated to helping UNT's neurodivergent students with adjusting to university life and turning their degrees into careers.
ENGAGE can support a maximum of 48 students; which means sixteen students per coordinator. ENGAGE staff includes administrative staff, three coordinators, and graduate assistants. Each student is assigned one coordinator and one graduate assistant. ENGAGE staff tailors support level based on the individual and guides them to reaching their goals through weekly meetings, check-ins, group activities, and referrals.
