Continuing Education FAQ's

When are my continuing education hours due to UNT?

A renewal application, required documentation, and application fee should be submitted 8 weeks prior to your expiration date to ensure that your renewal is processed before your credential expires. The expiration date is based on the end of the calendar quarter date of your Job Skills Training or Job Placement Credential. Please check your UNT WISE Searchable Portal page for expiration dates.

What's the difference between a UNT WISE CEU and an external CEU?
  • A UNT WISE CEU is a webinar/training hosted and developed by UNT WISE and is available on our CEU Catalog.
  • An external CEU is a webinar/training hosted and developed by other organizations.
If I retake a webinar/training and want to repeat the same course, will I be able to count both completions toward my credential renewal?
You will not be able to count the same version of a course twice within a three-year renewal period, for example, if a CEU (same title and content) is retaken, the CEU will only be accepted toward renewal once.  To count a course with the same or a similar title more than once, you must show proof that the version is substantially updated or includes different content.
Can I retake a credential course in lieu of continuing education?
You cannot retake a credential course in lieu of continuing education. The continuing education requirement supports continued professional development and the expansion of new knowledge and skills.
How do I document my continuing education?
You will be responsible for keeping an accurate list of completed continuing education on page two of the UNT WISE Credential Renewal Form. When submitting your renewal application, you will also be required to upload certificates and documentation for all external CEUs. We recommend saving your certificates and supporting documents in a folder on your device so they are easy to access when you are ready to submit your renewal application.
What happens if I miss the deadline to complete my continuing education hours and submit my renewal application?
Only Job Skills Training, Job Placement, Supported Employment, and Work Readiness have a 90-day grace period calculated from the credential expiration date during which they must complete the late renewal process. Providers who contact UNT WISE and complete their renewal submission during the 90-day grace period may renew credentials with the typical CEUs, renewal application, and a late renewal fee. Please refer to our renewal policy for more details.
Do contact hours for new endorsement and/or credential courses count toward continuing education hours needed for my employment services renewal?

Half of the hours received by earning a new credential or endorsement beyond Job Placement during the renewal period may be counted toward the employment services credential renewal. For example, if you earned the Work Readiness credential during your three-year renewal period, 12 of the 24 general hours may be applied toward fulfilling the requirement for your employment services credential.

Please contact wiserenewal@unt.edu to confirm eligibility.
